‘Tis the season for cozying up next to the fireplaces with a nice warm drink – so why not that drink be a holiday drink?
Here are a few of my favourite holiday recipe drinks that you should get your hands on this season!
1. Chai Tea Latte
Whenever I go out to a coffee shop, I have to get my hands on a Chai Tea Latte. Don’t want to face the cold? All it takes is boiled milk, a tea bag, crushed spices, ginger, cloves and cinnamon sticks. How delicious?
Nothing says Christmas better than eggnog! Instead of running out to the market for your new carton, why not make it in the warmth of your home! Combine milk, cloves, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla, and cinnamon in a saucepan, over low heat for 5 minutes. Grab a large bowl and combine egg yolks and sugar and whisk your heart out. Next, stir in rum (optional), cream, 2 teaspoon vanilla, and nutmeg. Cheers.
3. Mulled Wine
When I was at the Toronto Christmas Market, I fell in love with mulled wine and have been dying for another glass ever since. For this holiday beverage all you need is cider, wine, honey, cinnamon sticks, zest, juice and cloves in a large pot boiled and simmered over low heat for 10 minutes. Suddenly drinking three glasses of wine became okay with this recipe!
4. Hot Cocoa with Marshmallows
Fill up your festive mug with milk, add a teaspoon of cocoa, and microwave on high power till hot. For sweeting, add a couple of spoonfuls of sugar until desired sweetness. Top it off with some marshmallows and a nice film on the television!
5. Apple Cider
Mm, mm, how I do love apple cider. For this beverage, place apples in a large pot and add water over top about half way. Add and stir in sugar, cinnamon, and allspice. Bring to a boil and let it sit for an hour. Next, strain the apple mixture though a fine mesh sieve to discard any solids. Refrigerate until cold, or serve it warm!
6. Nutella Hot ChocolateI had recently come across this recipe on Pinterest and could not resist giving it a try. Similar to Hot Cocoa, Nutella Hot Chocolate has a delicious hazelnut taste. Combine milk and desired amount of Nutella in a small pot and simmer on medium-high heat on the stove and whisk till smooth. Now wasn’t that easy and delicious?
7. Peppermint White Hot Chocolate
This is for all those Tim Horton lovers out there. For this recipe, place heavy cream and chocolate in medium pot on the stove. Cook and stir on medium heat until chocolate is melted fully. Add in 1/2 cream and a 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract and cook until heated. Sprinkle some candy cane shaving over top and sip away this delicious drink! Now you can have it all year long, eh?
8. Caramel Brûlée Latte
Although Starbucks does make a delicious Caramel Brûlée Latte and they spell your name incorrectly on your cup, making it at home is just as good! All you need is 1 tablespoon of caramel sauce, 1 tablespoon of french vanilla syrup, 1 cup of cream, 2 espresso shots, and to top it off, whipped cream and sugar! Yum, yum.
